(1984) * the spurious "Popish Plot" fabricated by Titus Oates) certainly was not needed by a society hoping for some stability following the monarchy's mis century Restoration. Offered here are five contemporary pamphlets providing some account of its tragic outcome. Not without intriguing interest is the modern publication - "The Killing of Justice Godfrey", the leading London magistrate. Whilst he had some association with the plot - Oates had appeared before him as an informer - the author seeks to prove that Godfrey's own political views and stance, decidedly out of step with the court and Establishment of the day, being ultimately responsible for his murder.
