Victorian group of three medals to Commander Charles Burbank of the HEIC and Bengal Marine, comprising China War Medal 1842, C. Burbank HEIC S `Hooghly`, IGS with Pegu clasp 1854, Commr. `Pluto` Bengal Marine steam sloop , India 1857-58 Commr. `Fire Queen` iron steam ship, all engraved.
The HEIC`s ship Hooghly was part of the Bengal Marine and involved in actions in the latter part of the First China War (or First Opium War).
The East India Company`s steam-vessel `Pluto` had an armament of one 32-pounder, four 12-pounders, two 6-pounders with Officers and crew totalling 80 when she was seconded to the Naval Force of Commoder G.R. Lambert during the Second Anglo-Burmese War of 1852-3. The ship`s Commander Charles Burbank probably gained the IGS medal with Pegu clasp in the action and capture at the city of Bassein, Burma on the 19th May 1852. The Edinburgh Gazette of August 1852 quotes a letter from Commodore G.R. Lambert to the Governor-General of India dated July 21, 1852 stating ` In bringing Mr Burbank`s zeal and activity to my notice, Commander Tarleton recapitulates the services performed by the small steam force under his orders, assisted by three boats and 60 seamen and marines from HMS Fox, during the last ten days.
The `Fire Queen` iron steam yacht was launched 27th July 1844.

Postage and packing can be arranged by the Auctioneers and will be charged at cost of postage/delivery plus an minimum charge of £10 for the first Lot and £2 for each additional lot larger items may attract a higher fee Lot. Insurance can be arranged subject to the terms of the carriers. However all packing will be at the purchaser’s risk. Gorringes recommend Mailboxes and Alban Shipping for high value or delicate items.
