A rare and massive Chinese Longquan celadon carved charger, 15th century, Ming dynasty, the centre well carved with two peacocks amid flowering branches and rockwork, within a broad border of star-shaped flowers and scrolling leaves enclosed by two narrow bands of keywork scrolls, the underside with scrolling leaves and lotus flowers, the convex base with a broad unglazed circle burnt orange in the firing and a raised foot, 49.5cm.
Carved Longquan wares featuring birds, and peacocks in particular, are extremely rare; flower scrolls and to a lesser extent human figures are the more commonly found subjects. Postage and packing can be arranged by the Auctioneers and will be charged at cost of postage/delivery plus an minimum charge of £10 for the first Lot and £2 for each additional lot larger items may attract a higher fee Lot. Insurance can be arranged subject to the terms of the carriers. However all packing will be at the purchaser’s risk. Gorringes recommend Mailboxes and Alban Shipping for high value or delicate items.
