A Louis XV tulipwood, marquetry and parquetry table à écrire, by Jean-Pierre Dusautoy, circa 1770, the veined white marble top having gilt brass half gallery above a flowerhead and trellis-inlaid frieze with fitted drawer, on cabriole legs linked by undertier, on foliate sabots, stamped DUSAUTOY W 1ft 7.5in
Note: Dusautoy (1719-1800) became a maitre on 1st September 1779, when he was already 60. Until that date he had remained an ouvrier libre working in lieux privilégiés, where guild rules did not apply. From that time he continued selling furniture from his workshop in the Cour Saint Joseph, 4 Rue de Charonne, Paris and was still in business after the revolution. This table à écrire is typical of his work, some of which survives in the Swedish royal collection, Gustav III having been a client.
Similar tables have appeared in the following Christie`s sales: New York, 24 October 2013, lot 502; King Street, 23 May 2012, lot 98; King Street, 9-10 December 2004, lots 352 and 363.
