A case of twelve bottles of Madeira, believed shipped by Blandy`s, no labels, stencilled bottles, simply `400 Verdelho`, plain gold coloured metal capsules, each bottle wrapped individually in tissue on which is printed `Produce of Portugal`, then each in straw slip tubes. Case stamped only LM London, c. 1950s, believed the property of Lord Milne. Not unusually, the bottles appear to have been stood some time before packing (15+ years) as the characteristic madeira crust has formed uniformly in the neck at fill level, with further crusting on one side of the neck since cased horizontally. Colour appears of medium depth, consistent with a wine of some 30 years cask age before bottling; the wine is likely therefore to be at least early C20th. Two bottles removed for inspection: both in near perfect condition with high fills. Banded case sealed until opened for this sale. A fascinating find
