A case of twelve bottles of Chateau Palmer 1995, Margaux, owc.
A case of twelve bottles of Chateau Palmer 1995, Margaux, owc. So obsessed has the wine world become with the firsts and `super seconds` that it is often forgotten that Palmer was a mere third growth in the 1855 classification! It`s modern reputation dates essentially from the 1960s and from the 1961 vintage in particular, grown at a time when its great Margaux rival, Chateau Margaux itself, was rather out of sorts and was producing wines unworthy of its elevated status. Since then Palmer has become firmly established in the elite group just beneath the firsts and indeed in recent years has even established a commercially viable release price above that of the leading second growths and many times that of its nearest official third growth peers. Whether that is an argument for a revision of the classification is a rather moot point but there`s no doubt the name of Chateau Palmer is sufficiently famous to evoke longing sighs among legions of wine enthusiasts far and wide. With a notably higher Merlot content than most left-bank wines, Palmer is plush and full and shows a little earlier than most of its rivals but lasts every bit as long. In short, one of the great names of Bordeaux.
