An interesting bottle, of Amontillado 1878, bottled c. early 1900s by Arthur H. Godfree & Co., 8 Adelphi Terrace WC2. Remains of original embossed green wax capsule over driven cork, level low to mid shoulder, label bearing signs of seepage; medium depth of colour, some fine sediment. A rare find, the level lower than one would like but the oxidised nature of aged sherry and the higher alcohol content should afford adequate protection and this may be a unique opportunity to try a C19th vintage amontillado, arguably in its true dry expression the finest style of sherry.
