A collection of nine autograph letters (6 June 1959 - 23 August 1959) from Reggie Kray to Frances and Frank Shea, written from HMP Wandsworth; including six to Frances in a chatty `pen pal` manner, referring to her imminent new job, boyfriends, dancing, his pleasure in their correspondence, etc; and three to her father Frank (who ran the gambling at the Regency Club in Stoke Newington and was a friend to the Kray family), thanking him for his support during an appeal, with references to Frances and her brother, Frankie, etc
The following 11 lots of letters and ephemera were the personal property of Frances Kray (née Shea, 1943-1967) who met Reginald Kray when she was 16 years old. He corresponded with her during spells of imprisonment in Wandsworth and Brixton, first as a `pen pal`, later as her fiancée. The couple eventually married in 1965, when Frances was 23. Three months later she left her husband and returned to her parents` home. After at least two failed suicide attempts, she died from an overdose of barbiturates, at the house of her brother Frankie, in 1967.
Provenance: From the estate of Frances Kray, thence by descent
